Malaria is a serious illness spread by infected mosquitoes in many tropical regions. No tablet gives complete protection, so the best approach combines bite avoidance with the right preventive medicine. Our pharmacist will help you decide what you need for your destination.
What we cover in your consultation
- Whether your destination is a malaria risk area, and how high the risk is
- Which preventive tablet is suitable for you, based on your health, other medicines and the region
- How and when to start and finish the course
- Practical bite avoidance: repellents, clothing, nets and timing
Why a consultation is needed
Anti-malarial tablets are prescription-only medicines and the right choice depends on where you are going, how long you are staying and your medical history. Our pharmacist will assess you and supply the appropriate course if it is suitable.
Prices
Prices are per tablet or capsule and your course length depends on your trip. Your pharmacist will confirm the total at your consultation.
Combine your malaria advice with your travel vaccines at our travel clinic.
Bite avoidance still matters
No tablet is 100% effective. Use an effective insect repellent on exposed skin, wear long loose clothing at dusk and dawn, sleep under a treated net where recommended, and use air conditioning or screens where available.
If you feel unwell after travel
Malaria symptoms can appear weeks or even months after returning home. If you develop a fever, headache, chills or flu-like symptoms after travel to a malaria area, seek urgent medical help and tell them where you have been.
